Consumer Tips
Be sure to test an unexposed area for colour-fastness and possible staining before proceeding.
Suedes or nu-bucks:
Rain marks can often be removed with a clean brush or nu-buck block once the garment has been allowed to dry. Be sure to allow the garment to dry in an open area indoors and away from direct heat.
- Ink can sometimes be removed with a clean dry brush, nu-buck block or clean, fine emery cloth. Never use water or hair spray!
- Food grease is difficult to remove at home. However, you could try applying dry corn starch to the stained area. Let the powder absorb the stain for about twenty minutes. Then brush out all remaining powder.
- Name tag stickers: do not attempt to remove. This causes rapid oxidation of the glue, making it harder to remove. Bring the garment in for cleaning as soon as possible. Read the Services page, especially the "Solvent" leather cleaning section.
If the above remedies are not working, don't despair. It may be possible for us to spot-clean or touch-up the problem areas without full cleaning. Our skilled technicians can match most leather colours.
Smooth (or painted) leathers:
A damp cloth or sponge can be used to remove localized soil.
Furs:
- Do not apply perfumes while wearing fur. This can cause fading or "yellowing."
- Avoid sitting for long periods while wearing your fur. This can cause the tips of the hair to break and flatten. Best to remove your coat, fold inside-out and place beside you.
- Don't use a wire garment hanger. Use a formed heavy fur hanger.
